i live in orange county california and want to buy a mini cooper…a friend told me of these auctions and how great they are and how you can get cars for much cheaper than normal…are there a lot of auctions down here and are they safe to buy from? my friends relative will be going with me since he does this stuff all of the time.

also, are there any sites I can look on that will have cars available and up for auction? thanks!

You won’t get a steal. The public auctions sell the cars for regular prices. You can try acauctions.com ( i don’t work for them).

Get someone who has a dealer’s license to buy a car for you. That is where the steals are. They sell a car every 30 seconds. There is a small group of dealers and they buy cheap…. but they don’t know much about the cars they buy except that they run since the auctioneer has them drive up to be sold.
Look for the list of Manheim auction sites. They are the biggest in the USA ( i don’t work for them).

In my judgment….especially with a car…..you have to be able to touch it, smell it, look at the engine…have a mechanic look it over and drive it…none of these can be done on-line. That is pure risk with no rewards.

Of course, P.T. Barnum said that There’s a sucker born every minute. Be careful

Car Auctions: are they a good way to get a nice car at a low price?

November 12th, 2011 Peter 3 comments

Question by Frekwii: Car Auctions: are they a good way to get a nice car at a low price?
I need a new car but I cannot afford much of a car payment at this time. A friend suggested that I try a car auction. I know very little about how a car auction works but I am “researching”. Is this really a good way to go or are there too many risk for someone who has not a clue about a car engine.

It’s not something you should do if you’re not car savvy
