Try looking in the newspaper or online for auctions near you.
Car auctions are like any other auction you attend… you get there early to inspect the cars, register, bid on the car(s) you like and pay, if you’re the highest bidder.

It’s always a good idea to bring a mechanic with you or at least someone that knows about cars, so you won’t get a lemon.

How To Find An Impounded Car Auction Near You

September 1st, 2010 Peter No comments

An impounded car auction can be one of the best places to buy a used car. Everything from a classic 1960s cruiser to a like-new convertible sports car can be found at an impounded car auction. Sometimes you may even find the occasional foreign car. Now before we go into where you can find an impounded car auction near you, it is important that you understand how they work.

How do these cars get impounded in the first place? Well, there are many reasons these cars get impounded. Police normally repossess or seize these vehicles from convicted criminals, and also as collateral from those who fail to pay their bills. If the vehicle remains in the government’s (police department’s) possession, they will eventually be auctioned off at an impounded car auction. These auctions normally occur every 3, 6, 9, or 12 months, depending on the police department. It’s good to know that these auctions don’t just occur for seized vehicles, but for homes, boats, and basically any other items that have been seized by the police.

An impounded car auction is probably one of THE best places to find a used car. You will see a variety of people at these auctions, including the new 16-year-old driver who is looking for their first car, to the used car salesman who will buy the vehicle and get a profit by selling it for a higher price.

When you get to the impounded car auction, make sure you treat your potential purchase just as you would any other vehicle. Check it for dings, dents, and any other undesirable characteristics to make sure it is in usable condition (you don’t want to drive home a lemon!). Then once you’ve found the car of your choice, bid away!

”So where can I find an impounded car auction?”

To find an impounded car auction near you, you have two options. One good way is to call around to the various local police officers near you. They usually have a list of car auctions in your area.

Guide to Impounded Car Auctions

July 2nd, 2010 Peter No comments

Impounded car auctions are considered one of the best options in finding cheap cars. It is one way to hunt for an affordable vehicle. These auctions are gaining popularity due to the low starting bids. This is sometimes what makes people quite apprehensive in getting a car from such car auctions. They think that a good and well-conditioned car cannot possibly be auctioned at such a low price.

One fact about impounded car auctions is that they can be trusted. The procedure is legal and oftentimes being held by trustworthy auctioneers who simply want to get rid of the cars as soon as possible.

These auctioneers are government agencies, banks and several lending organizations. They are not after the profit from the impounded cars. Earning money from these cars is not their priority.

Some reasons for the cheap auctions are; one, they need the spaces that these cars are occupying, second may be because maintenance can be costly and third, putting the cars in auction is a far better option than letting them fall into pieces and get wasted. These reasons answer why impounded cars are being sold at prices that can easily attract many people.

Impounded car auctions also offer a practical option among people who are looking for different types of cars. Luxury cars can sometimes be found as well as some really good models which are being auctioned at a low starting bid. Some cars may even look as good as new and in excellent condition. The best thing is that they are being sold at a price that people want.

However, you should not get your hopes too high as to getting a good and well-conditioned car at such a very low price. This is just like any other auction wherein a good find attracts more bidders. As a result, it should be expected that as more bidders place their bid on a particular car, the price increases. This means that you may possibly find disappointment when a particular car you want comes out very elusive.

There is much to be learned though for those who are interested in buying a vehicle from impounded car auctions. If you are serious about buying a car with this procedure, a good way to start is by attending one auction in your area just to get a feel of how the whole thing goes. Take time to watch, observe and learn in order to get the most out of it.
